The last month I had the opportunity to join The Sims 3 Simposium at Redwood Shores - San Francisco. The event lasted 2 days (10/29-30) and producers showed me and other simmers all the features of the first expansion pack of The Sims 3, World Adventures.
It has been an amazing experience and I must say that the new expansion pack and Create a World tool impressed me a lot.
The Sims division is trying to give us all that we need to customize the game even more and to make our Sims live new experiences.
During the event I published many info and images on Edenstyle's facebook page, so here I'll highlight just the most important features and my feelings about the EP.

WORLD ADVENTURES
What I like more about the new expansion pack is that it introduces something really new in the game.
Thanks to the adventures system, The Sims 3 can now be played as an adventure game. We'll have to solve enigmas, find a way to open secret doors, get rid of traps...
When EA announced that the first expansion pack was about travelling, many people started to think that it would be a "Bon Voyage" remake. It is not true, World Adventure is totally different from any The Sims 1 or The Sims 2 expansion pack.

Travelling system
Our Sims can now travel to 3 different locations: Champ Les Sims (France), Al Simhara (Egypt) and Shang Simla (China).
Every location is a different city, with houses, monuments, museums, shops, tombs and other community lots.
Once arrived to the destination, you'll find your Sim in the base camp, that looks like an hotel in France and China and like a tent camp in Egypt.
To go on vacation, you just have to take the phone and decide the destination. If you are a worker, you don't have to ask for days off, since the VISA level is the one that decides how many days of vacation you can take. At the beginning you can have 3 days only, but the more you travel, the more you can increase your VISA level (up to 15 days).
In travel journal you can find the statistics related to your travels.

At the base camp you can check a board and get a new adventure. Adventures are similar to Opportunities, but they are much longer and exciting and they can ask you to explore a tomb and find a treasure. Every time you fulfill a part of the adventure, a message will show up telling you what's the next step.
You'll have to discover how to enter a tomb and then find your way to the treasure room. You'll face secret doors that can be opened with a special key, by walking on a special floor tile or by moving a statue on the tile.
Around the tombs there are many traps, like fire traps. To avoid them you should wet yourself in a fountain or do other tricks.

The game doesn't have an "Adventurer" career, but you can have your Sim be an adventurer and earn a lot of money finding hidden treasures.
If you want to relax, you can visit museums, parks, shops and other community lots.
You can enter destinations' shops and buy items by clicking on the merchant. A window similar to the one that we have in the supermarket will pop up, showing what you can buy.
Some goods can be bought with ancient coins only, that you can collect while visiting tombs.
In France you can make and buy nectar, using the new grape variants and fruits.

Mummies
Mummies are the new creature of the Expansion pack.
You can find them by opening a sarcophagus in Egypt and also in the museums of the other destinations.
They are quite slow, but if they catch you, you are in a trouble!
A Sim can be cursed by a mummy... and if he doesn't go to the Sphynx in 2 weeks and try to solve an enigma, he will die.

Details
World Adventures contains many other features. There are new skills (Photography, nectar making, martail arts), new traits (Disciplinate, Adventurer, Photographer's eye), many beautifil CAS items (hairstyles, clothes) and so on.
You can find more info and pictures about those details here.

Buydebug Cheat
Thanks to "buydebug" cheat you can unlock a new slot in Buy mode with many debug objects. To enable it, press Ctrl + Shift + C and write Testingcheatsenabled true. Then , go to buy mode, press Ctrl + Shift + C again and write Buydebug.
In the debug slot yo can now find tomb objects, collectibles spawners and decorative or special objects. In this way you can create amazing locations to explore using the same tools and items that developers use.
To program enigmas, just place the special objects, click on them and decide what's happen when someone use it. For examaple you can decide that if a Sim step on the tile, a door will open... or you can place a treasure chest and set the treasures.
Gems, rocks, flowers, fishes and insect spawners are special items that you can place in your lots. You cannot see them in live mode, but they'll make the game spawn the collectibles in the places where you put them.
These are just few things you can do with Buydebug objects... just try it and enjoy!

CREATE A WORLD TOOL
During the event we also had the chance to try a new tool that will be released for free on the official website in December.
Create a World tool is a new official program that lets you design and create a complete world from scratch or from premade worlds.
A very interesting thing is that it's the same tool that developers use to create the cities of the game (like Sunset Valley).
We'll be able to add mountains, lakes, roads, trees, landscape items and much more.
We can also decide where to put the various lots and place some special spawners that will spawn collectibles (butterflies, stones, seeds...) in that certain area.
To know more about that tool, check the album I published live during the event.

WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?
For the future, they will try to create expansion packs like this one, that introduces something totally new to the game. They have many ideas, but every time the add things that make sense with EP theme only, of course.
What I can say? We are in good hands! ;)

Wanna know more and see the pics? Check the reportage I posted live on facebook during the event...

Enjoy!
